Dr. Kennedy, MD

James Kennedy, Jr., MD – Pediatrician

Originally from southwestern Virginia, Dr. Kennedy returned to the Commonwealth to serve as Pediatrician at RAHC. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and completed his residency in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. As a Board Certified Pediatrician, Dr. Kennedy came to RAHC from Dallas, Texas where he was a staff and lead pediatrician within the Parkland Health and Hospital System. Dr. Kennedy is an advocate of preventive medicine and helping people adopt healthy lifestyles and truly believes it’s important to begin promoting these beliefs early in the lives of children. Additionally, Dr. Kennedy is a cycling enthusiast and in his free time also enjoys hiking, camping, and the outdoors.

Jessica James, DO

Dr. James is a family physician who earned an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Virginia and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree with honors from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. She is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and a member of the American Osteopathic Association.

John Sheridan, DO

Dr. Sheridan is a Rockbridge County native and earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He specializes in emergency medicine and has over 30 years of clinical experience.  In addition to his work at RAHC,  he is also a provider in the Emergency Department at Augusta Health, the Operational Medical Director for Rockbridge County and serves as the Chair of the Rockbridge County Fire and EMS Commission.  Dr. Sheridan is honored to serve patients from the community in which he was raised and enjoys hunting, fishing and working on his family farm.

Kirk Luder, MD

Dr. Luder is a provider of psychiatric care at RAHC.  He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine specializing in psychiatry.  After completing his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Luder completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.  He has been board certified for over 20 years by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Phi Beta Kappa Society and also provides psychiatric services at the Washington and Lee University Counseling Center.


Kim Escudero, MD

Dr. Escudero comes to RAHC with over 20 years of experience. She and her family moved from California recently to be closer to extended family. Previously, she worked in a rural community hospital with special attention to newborns and inpatient/outpatient care for newborns through age 21. She has been a major contributor to local non-profit groups dedicated to the medical care of underserved populations and has participated in multiple missions to bring medical care to those in countries that would otherwise not receive it. Dr. Escudero will be joining Dr. Kennedy and the rest of our team in bringing high quality care to children in Rockbridge and surrounding areas.

Elizabeth Berry, FNP-BC

Mrs. Berry is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and earned a Masters of Science in nursing from Simmons College. Mrs. Berry has a strong background in public health nursing and in providing women’s health care. A native of Rockbridge County, she has a passion for serving her community and in her spare time enjoys exercising, spending time with her family and with her Siberian Husky, Onyx.

Kimary Schatten, CNM, MPH

Kimary Schatten, CNM, MPH is a nurse practitioner who specializes in women’s health at RAHC and provides well-women care and other GYN services, including family planning. She earned her Master’s in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s in Nursing with a Midwifery Specialty from Oregon Health and Science University. After spending two years in the Peace Corp in Senegal, West Africa, Ms. Schatten was exposed to the staggering high rates of infant and maternal mortality, which was the catalyst for inspiring her to pursue working in public health care. Ms. Schatten relocated to the area from Atlanta with her husband, a business professor at Washington & Lee University, and their young daughter, who has since been joined by a younger brother.


Christine Shoaf, FNP-C

Christine Shoaf, FNP-C, MSN, RN is a family nurse practitioner who earned an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from New York University and a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Christine’s background in public health and inter-professionalism situates her uniquely to provide quality patient care at RAHC. Christine resides in Rockbridge County with her husband, a law student at Washington & Lee. She spends her free time hiking, camping, and trail running around the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.


Dental Team

Erin picErin Cassilly, DDS

Dr. Cassilly earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Science from Towson University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Prior to RAHC, Dr. Cassilly practiced in a private dental practice in Annapolis, MD, is a member of the American Dental Association and has traded her fondness of the Maryland watersheds for the beautiful mountains in the Rockbridge area.  She enjoys the outdoors, her family and her dog ‘Rufus’.



Dr. Jamie Clark, DDSJamie Clark, DDS

Dr. Clark earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a member of the American Dental Association. Prior to joining the RAHC dental team, Dr. Clark provided comprehensive child and adult dental care to Native American and Native Alaskan patients in Seattle, WA. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano and is an avid kayaker and rock climber.



Steven Woodard, DMD

Dr. Woodard earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Brigham Young University and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.  An Eagle Scout, Dr. Woodard lives in Rockbridge County with his wife and two small children and enjoys spending time with his family exploring the outdoors.



Pam picPam Dye, RDH

Ms. Dye earned an Applied Science AD majoring in Dental Hygiene from the Wytheville Community College.  She has practiced  for over 14 years as a Registered Dental Hygienist and was previously a Dental Assistant. Her passion for dental care prompts her involvement with teaching and helping patients understand the importance of good dental hygiene and its effects on overall health.  Ms. Dye enjoys her family, reading, exercising and spending time unwinding at the beach.

Zach Taylor, MA, LPC

Mr. Taylor earned an MA in Counseling Psychology from Eastern Mennonite University and is licensed by the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a member of the American Counseling Association. Prior to joining RAHC, Mr. Taylor was in private practice in Charlottesville, VA and worked in primary care and hospital-based clinics. His experience includes treating patients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, insomnia and chronic pain, as well as is an experienced and trained couples and marriage counselor. He is a published author and lecturer on the topic of nutrition and public health and in his  free time, Mr. Taylor enjoys hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, studying botany, conversations over coffee, and playing with his cat, Oliver.

Shana Colwell, MSW

Ms. Colwell has been a practicing Behavioral Health Consultant for 13 years and earned a Bachelors in Social Work from Ferrum College, a Masters in Social Work from Radford University and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Her experience included working extensively with children and families in crisis, inpatient mental health and with adults with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Ms. Colwell was raised on a tobacco farm in Pittsylvania County, VA and has spent the majority of her career working in southwestern and central Virginia. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and her pets, taking motorcycle rides and learning to paint.


Molly Pallavicini, MA

Ms. Pallavicini is a professional counselor specializing in substance abuse treatment- particularly related to women and trauma. A native of Shenandoah Valley, she comes to us from Horizon Behavioral Health and we are excited that she is part of our team.

I am native of the Shenandoah Valley.  I earned an MS in Mental Health Counseling from Capella.  I bring over 15 years of providing clinical services to children, families and adults.  I have a special interest in working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression.  In my spare time, I love to be outdoors, hiking, and running as well as enjoying a holistic lifestyle.
