Abby Sorrells

Abby Sorrells is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in child and family counseling. For the past 20 years she has worked in the mental health field as a therapist and clinical supervisor; specializing in early childhood development, complex developmental trauma, attachment-caregiving-related issues, and parent education. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Bridgewater College and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University.

Abby has spent the majority of her career providing therapy to children and families in the foster care and adoptive systems and she understands the challenges faced by children and caregivers.

She is a certified COS-Parenting Facilitator with the ability to teach parenting courses designed to help children and their parents grow stronger together. Prior to her position with RAHC, Abby was the Program Director for the internationally recognized Ainsworth Attachment Clinic. While working there, she received extensive training on helping children who went through trauma or had problems with their caregiver relationships.

Abby focuses on issues ranging from anxiety and depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, stress and relationship conflict, the perinatal period, early childhood development, attachment-focused issues, and issues related to foster care and adoption. She utilizes different therapy methods to help people of all ages manage challenging behaviors and emotions, making sure her patients feel productive and confident about their future. Abby works with children and caregivers to help them develop new skills to assist with communication, emotion regulation, and maintaining healthy relationships.

Abby enjoys getting to know the stories of the people she works with and appreciates the opportunity to serve families in the community where she lives. She believes that change is always possible, and that even in difficult situations, resilience can be developed.

When she is not in her therapy office, Abby can be found with her husband and two children at baseball games and music lessons. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her dog, reading, gardening, and true crime documentaries.
