Kelsey Brown
Kelsey Brown, RDN, joined the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, working with both children and adults.
Earning her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
When she was 16 years old, Kelsey decided she wanted to study nutrition because of her personal desire to be healthy. Over time and with education she realized the shortcomings of healthy nutrition for so many in society.
As an undergraduate, she was active in UNCG’s Food Security Think Tank that involved working with food distribution systems, i.e., food banks, pantries, etc. in the Greensboro area to better understand how to get healthy, affordable foods into the hands of those that need it.
Kelsey has a long-standing passion for ensuring all people have access to healthy, safe and affordable foods. And helping those who are underserved has always been especially important to her.
Following graduating from UNCG, Kelsey joined the Peace Corps and served in Ghana, West Africa, using her nutritional knowledge and skills to plan, implement, and monitor projects pertaining to food sustainability and insecurity to help stave off malnutrition.
Prior to joining RAHC, she worked in the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections, providing nutrition assessment and counseling to male inmates. To those whose incarcerations had ended, she also provided assistance on how to find healthy food options in their communities.
At RAHC it is Kelsey’s desire to tap into the identified need where healthy nutrition can act as a preventative measure to support wellness and also help to reduce chronic diseases.
Working as a dietitian at RAHC is Kelsey’s perfect dream job and for her it’s a job with a true and valuable purpose.
In her free time, Kelsey is very active with her husband and two young children, and enjoys swimming and yoga, and is particularly passionate about playing board games.
